a.. Consider losing some weight: Most snorers tend to be overweight, and shedding excess fat has been shown to substantially decrease - if not eliminate - snoring. a.. Avoid midnight snacks and alcoholic beverages: Drinking alcohol or eating heavily before going to sleep causes muscles to slacken. a.. Avoid sleeping pills or other sedatives: Although they put you to sleep, they relax your neck muscles, making your snoring worse. a.. Stop smoking: Smoking causes nasal and lung congestion, a major cause of snoring. a.. Not so easy; snoring can result from natural changes in the soft palate tissue as it stretches and thins with age. When that happens, none of the above will suffice. I know from personal experience; I am slim, dont drink or smoke, sleep on my side, and snore like crazy. Surgery is the only remedy left and I am not willing to undergo a UPT. CPAP usually works as well or better than surgery and is safer. Insurance usually doesnt pay for it for snoring alone as opposed to obstructive sleep apnea, but neither will it pay for surgery for snoring.

Clark, MD, medical director of the Regional Sleep Disorders Center at the Columbus Community Hospital in Columbus, Ohio. "One doesnt have to stop breathing to have a problem."
Anyone have any tips or is there anything you can buy to stop snoring. I snore very loud and its been mistaken for planes and thunder, just wondering if anyone has any advice before my GF permanently sleeps on the couch LOL.
